BANGKOK, 29 November 2018 (NNT) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has suspended its stray dog campaign, after receiving complaints about its capture methods, which some said were cruel.
The BMA's plan was to relocate 150,000 stray dogs in the capital to a quarantine center in Prawet District.
The resolution to suspend the operation was made during a meeting led by Bangkok Governor Pol. Gen. Asawin Kwanmuang and concerned officials. Previously the Voice Foundation raised concerns over the capture methods of the BMA which sparked anger among dog lovers, many of whom have adopted some of the captured animals.
After consulting with related agencies and experts, the BMA resolved to form a committee on November 30th to draft a plan within 100 days, outlining instructions about proper methods to capture stray animals as well as proper treatment of the animals during their confinement.
The BMA has thus suspended all capture efforts until the committee proposes a better solution.
