61 Year-Old Canadian Tourist Dies on Yacht in Chonburi Thailand

PATTAYA – Police and rescue workers were called to Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Chon Buri’s Sattahip district after a Canadian tourist was discovered dead on a yacht early on Friday morning.

The Royal Thai police were informed at 2.30am that Gilbert Tourville , 61, had died on the yacht that was docked at the Ocean Marina Yacht Club in Tambon Na Jomtien.

A doctor determined that he had died about eight hours earlier. There was no sign of four play.

The victim’s friend, 53-year-old Denis Bachand, also a Canadian national, told police that they both sailed the yacht out into the sea last night. However, Gilbert complained about chest pains, so Bachand sailed back to the yacht club, but Gilbert didn’t make it.

Authorities suspect a pre-existing medical condition flaring up to be the cause of his death.

His body has been transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine in order to finalize the cause of death.

Gilbert’s relatives have, reportedly, been contacted by the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok.

^ yes there will be some .
Looks to be all very innocent to me. Couple of buddies go out for a sail, one takes ill, they return, dock at 2 am, but the one buddy was DOA.

Probably did. Have you ever tried usinga mobile phone when you're 8 hours sail out to sea? Good luck with that . Even one hour out, even in the Gulf of Thailand, it's unlikely you'd get coverage. And maybe by the time he was close enough to get a signal, he had only one thing on his mind; to keep sailing as fast as possible back to port. It would have been relatively close by that time.

    Yes, very good point.

What we know is from time of death to time of docking was around 8 hours.

So, if something untoward happened, the living guy took 8 hours to get to the dock and report the death.

The time they left is important.
