How to find a missing passenger

Just had an email from somebody I know - is there an updated survivor/body list or a number I can ring to help find this guy?

As you would have heard, there was a plane crash in Phuket. Our school friend was on that plane. His girlfriend Bethan Jones has been located in intensive care, but Alex has yet to be found. I ask you, if you or anybody is in the help area, please, I beg of you to keep your eyes open for our friend and get in touch. His parents are desperately awaiting news. His name is ALEXANDER COLLINS, but goes by the name of ALEX. He is of medium build, has dark brown eyes, dark hair, long at the front, dresses punky, prob wearing dark clothes. He is from Maesteag, South Wales, and is 22 years old. His body has not been identified, and he has not been located in the survivors yet, even though his girlfriend has. He had just began a long holiday. If you hear of his name, or see him in person, on the news, or anything, please please contact me on ________(PM TGS)_________
"I'm an outsider by choice, but not truly. It's the unpleasantness of the system that keeps me out. I'd rather be in, in a good system. That's where my discontent comes from: being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin' straight ahead. Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

The email is from the daughter of my ex boss at the funfair - they've already had a rough time what with the accident in Korea.

I've never had to pass on tragic news before, not looking forward to this.

    Looks like he's a gonner.

Never nice telling folk bad news. I once had to tell someone they were HIV + , see it as one of those rites of passage Scampy. (for you, not them)

20 plus years ago when I was still active in things like this, 30-40 percent burns - you would live, but, 90 percent then did't have a chance. I hope they have come a long way in burn treatment since then. This is a very sad subject. My heart really goes out to all of the families and friends of the victims.

^ I have to say, I didn't think 90% burns - and still be alive - was possible (ICU or not).

How can the skin breathe with 90% burns? Really sad indeed

BURNS, I got as friend that came home from Korea in 53 and bought an Indian Chief 80, was drunk, hit a section of hyway mail boxes that they mount on a heavy post at each end of the string, he was knocked out and busted the fuel tank open, full of gasoline [5 gallons] and he layed there in that burning gas til they got to him and could pull him out of it, his ears , nose, most of the skin on his body was gone, he woke up a month later in the VA hospital and made a noise, the nurse that was fooling around there told him to shut up as he should have been dead, but he lived, he is one ugly bastard now, they did a lot of ops on him and made a crude nose, ears, eyelids, but he is UGLY, he married a nurse, and he said that they could pobly do some more but no way was he going thru no more ops.
he was still alive last time I saw him in 1984..
I do not think he was lucky to have lived, he is somewhat fuked in the head and I would rather have died.

Bethan Jones, 22, was airlifted from the island of Phuket to the capital Bangkok for emergency treatment.

She is suffering from 80 per cent burns and is thought not to have been told that her boyfriend, Alex Collins, 22, is missing, feared dead.

Alex Collins set off on a six-month trip with girlfriend Bethan Jones

The body of a young backpacker missing since the Thai air crash has been flown home, it has been confirmed.
University graduate Alex Collins, 22, of Maesteg near Bridgend, had just embarked on a round-the-world trip when the flight crashed in Phuket.
Mr Collins' body has been flown home and his funeral will be held next Monday.
His girlfriend, Bethan Jones, 22, from Porth, Rhondda, is being treated in Bangkok for severe burns.
In a statement released by South Wales Police, Mr Collins' parents, Margaret and Richard, said: "Alex was a fantastic, loving son and our loss has left us with a hole in our hearts that can never be filled.
"He was an intelligent, polite and considerate young man with an extraordinary sense of humour.
Bethan Jones was transferred to a specialist unit in Bangkok

"He had a great zest for life and both he and his girlfriend Bethan were really looking forward to this trip that he had meticulously planned for over a year.
"We loved 'Alipal' more than words can express and cannot imagine life without him."
Mr Collins' funeral will take place at Our Lady and St Patrick's Church in Maesteg, before he is buried in Maesteg Cemetery.
Any donations given in Mr Collins' memory will be shared between the burns unit at Morriston Hospital, Swansea, and brain injury association Headway.
A spokesman for Bridgend Coroner's Office confirmed Mr Collins' body said an inquest had been opened and adjourned at Fulham Coroner's Court.
A total of 123 passengers, mostly foreign tourists, were on the One-Two-Go flight from Bangkok when it crashed and burst into flames as it was attempting to land on the island of Phuket on September 16.
The plane appeared to slide off the runway in Phuket, Thailand

Miss Jones and Mr Collins, who had both graduated from Cardiff University, were just three days into their trip. Miss Jones, who suffered 50% burns, is among the 42 people who survived. She was flown by military aircraft on Tuesday, 18 September to a special unit in Bangkok General Hospital, which treats patients with more than 40% skin burns.
