BANGKOK, 19th September 2018 (NNT) - The Governor of Bangkok has inspected water management at Saen Saep Canal, while assuring city residents that the capital will not suffer from any flooding.
Governor Pol Gen Asawin Kwanmuang inspected the readiness of the northern Saen Saep Canal water management project and assured nearby communities of the effectiveness of the measures being put in place. He was then briefed on efforts to manage water flowing in from the North, and coordination between the Royal Irrigation Department (RID) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA).
After the briefings, Pol Gen Asawin expressed confidence in his administration and the RID’s ability to handle water from the North. He claimed that the more pressing matter is eastern Bangkok, where BMA officials are working to drain the districts of Nong Chok, Minburi, Lat Krabang, and Khlong Sam Wa.
As for the inner city, the governor disclosed that officials have dredged municipal canals and that Deputy Governor Jakkapan Phiewngam is currently overseeing the installation of additional water pumps. Officials are also distributing up to three million sandbags to the public in preparation for heavy rainfall.
Given these measures, Pol Gen Asawin expects inundation in Bangkok will be less frequent than in previous years and that the city will not suffer from flooding.
