BANGKOK, 23rd August 2018 (NNT) - According to the Ministry of Public Health, the number of deaths from Acute Coronary Syndrome has decreased by about 10 percent.

Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Marut Jirasetsiri, made the revelation during a recent seminar on the current state of heart disease in Thailand. He indicated that heart and coronary artery diseases, particularly Acute Coronary Syndrome, are responsible for the majority of non-accidental deaths in Thailand.

He cited information from the World Health Organization, saying that Acute Coronary Syndrome had taken more than 7.2 million Thais, while other heart and coronary artery diseases have killed about 37,000 lives.

According to the Deputy Permanent Secretary, the Ministry has a service plan to handle these diseases. By developing the quality of hospitals, especially the ‘S’ tier health institutes, Dr. Marut said the ministry’s effort has decreased the number of Acute Coronary Syndrome related deaths by about 10 percent.

He added these hospitals are now able to treat heart-related illnesses and perform Percutaneous Coronary Intervention which is a non-surgical procedure, giving patients better odds against the diseases.
