Loei officials discuss solutions to oversupply of pineapples

LOEI, 29th May 2018 (NNT) – Loei officials have held a meeting to discuss problems being faced by local pineapple growers.

The meeting was led by Deputy Governor Sophon Suwanrat at the Provincial Hall and attended by agriculture officials, members of the Loei Chamber of Commerce and representatives of Na Haew district pineapple growers. It was called to address the falling price of the fruit, which is being produced at a current rate of 600-700 tons a day despite processing factories only being able to handle a total 200 tons a day.

Among solutions discussed were for Military Circle 28 to purchase pineapples at a cost of 3 baht per kilogram and distribute them among soldiers, for civil service offices to setup retail spaces for the fruit at locations such as hospitals and schools, for the Loei Commerce Office to find more sales channels both in and outside the province, for factories to step up their purchases, to increase processing, for state offices to buy no less than 100 baht worth of pineapples and for the local Agriculture Office to track purchase orders and seek better management of supplies.

Yingluck had a similar genius idea with rice, but blundered by thinking it could work in countries like Thailand, hot and sticky among other things. Maybe the Ministry of Tourism could save the day with a pineapple pyramid or another badly needed Swampy runway or something.

Ideas to LCO, winner gets a lifetime supply of the stuff.

Deemed to fail, as there is too much practical thought behind it.

I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere about being in a jam.

Yeah sure, let the army and public administration get pineapple at 3 THB/kg... Then they would sell for a profit on their premises, what would they do with it? Return it to the farmers?

I wouldn't be surprised to see those discounted pineapple find it's way to local markets stalls eventually (because selling them on premises is time-consuming)

Pineapple jam yes , it would change from the strawberry jam and marmelade produced by local
food industry. With all the fruits that grow there the jam landscape is quite dull...I make mango jam to diversify my breakfasts as it is the season.

They could also make dry pineapple, more juices (quite expensive here for a country with so much fruits) and even some cosmetics products...

It's a good idea. So is the pineapple booze idea.

Did the good local Burgers of Loei perchance discuss crop diversification? Or maybe export. Pineapple juice concentrate would be another. In this form it can be frozen and exported. It will keep for about 12 months and can last even longer if snap frozen and consistently stored at or just below -20°C (0°F).

Do you really expect anything different from someone who regularly pollutes threads with this offering:

Well he's a bitter half farang/half asian love child living in the West with no cultural identity to call his own.

So it's not a surprise really.

Think you're on a winner there Harry. Anyone who believes tiger penis soup enhances virility would go for the pineapples every time. Or hollow out the middle and sell them as ribbed condoms for "large" ladies.

I suppose building another processing plant to handle the amount of produce has been considered.

Apparently you can't make booze with it, Harry, as you have pointed out twice, produced at a current rate of 600-700 tons a day despite processing factories only being able to handle a total 200 tons a day."

    Doh!

Or perhaps anybody else's ideas get the yellow "didn't you read the effing OP" text treatment but not the yours. You come over as quite Trumpesque at times.

Queue: 1) I was only joking, or 2) A question that you won't answer yourself or an attack that diverts attention from your foolishness.

You can make Pineapple booze at home. If they publish the recipe (and don't tax it), I'm sure it will create a whole new market.

Freeing up the market and allowing said market to choose it's own path regarding supply and demand would certainly suffice.
