LOEI, 29th May 2018 (NNT) – Loei officials have held a meeting to discuss problems being faced by local pineapple growers.
The meeting was led by Deputy Governor Sophon Suwanrat at the Provincial Hall and attended by agriculture officials, members of the Loei Chamber of Commerce and representatives of Na Haew district pineapple growers. It was called to address the falling price of the fruit, which is being produced at a current rate of 600-700 tons a day despite processing factories only being able to handle a total 200 tons a day.
Among solutions discussed were for Military Circle 28 to purchase pineapples at a cost of 3 baht per kilogram and distribute them among soldiers, for civil service offices to setup retail spaces for the fruit at locations such as hospitals and schools, for the Loei Commerce Office to find more sales channels both in and outside the province, for factories to step up their purchases, to increase processing, for state offices to buy no less than 100 baht worth of pineapples and for the local Agriculture Office to track purchase orders and seek better management of supplies.
