PHUKET, 7 May 2018 (NNT) – Norwegian officials discussed measures to promote the use of Electrical Vehicles (EV) in Phuket in an attempt to reduce global warming.

Provincial Governor of Phuket Norapat Plodthong welcomed the officials from Oslo, Norway, led by Sture Portvik, to discuss on the feasibility of infrastructure development and policy to promote the concrete use of EVs in Phuket City.

Thai Ambassador to Oslo Prasittiporn Wetprasit said many countries are now encouraging their citizens to use EVs instead of conventional vehicles, with the number of EVs in the market expected to take 35 percent market share of new vehicles in 2040.

The EV sales currently account to less than one percent of all vehicle sales.

The provincial governor of Phuket said the use of fossil fuel in vehicles is one of the key contributing factors to global warming, making the use of EVs becoming a suitable solution to reduce pollution and fuel consumption, in keeping with Phuket's vision to become a smart city.

Norway has been promoting the use of EV by enacting the law which bans the sale of vehicles using fossil fuel by 2025, which is considered a progressive move resulted from 20 years of planning and cooperation between the public and private sectors.
