PHUKET, 14th April 2018 (NNT) - The southern province of Phuket has celebrated the Songkran New Year with the release of sea turtles.

Phuket Governor Norapat Plodthong presided over the release of 55 sea turtles at Mai Khao Beach. Attendees included members of public and private agencies, tourists and residents. The activity, held for the ninth time, was a collaborative project of the Mai Khao Marine Turtle Foundation, JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa and friends.

The freed turtles were those that had been injured and were in the care of Phuket Marine Biological Center and Third Naval Area Command, which are supported by the public and private sectors as well as public donations.
