Five hospitalized after inhaling smoke at indoor barbeque party

One woman and four children in northern Lampang province were sent to the hospital last night after they choked on barbeque smoke at their house party.

In a family reunion disaster, Thammasathan Lampang rescue volunteers responded to a call that several family members living in Muang district started fainting in the middle of their party, in which they had put a barbeque stove in a closed, air-conditioned room, according to Morning News.

Rescuers found two 9-year-old girls and a 13-year-old girl sitting in front of the house to recover from inhaling smoke. The three girls were sent to Lampang Central Hospital, Thairath reported.

But before the rescuers arrived, the family said they’d previously taken one 20-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl to the hospital.

According to an adult in the family, who was not identified, they were having an outdoor barbeque party (as it should be), but because of the hot weather, they moved the stove inside the house, leading to the incident.

Quite possible that the charcoal was mango wood of which the smoke is toxic. The sap from the tree is also an irritant on skin.

Mango wood contains a sap that is located at the base of the stem, branches, and trunk. As a result,a recommendation is made never to burn mango wood as it emits a smoke that is full of potent irritants.

Possible, but unlikely. Quite likely standard charcoal and the people started keeling over from carbon momoxide poisoning.

Indian Hindus burn mango wood for something. I see it in Indian grocer shops all the time.

Suicide by indoor charcoal burner has been in fashion for some time now in Japan.
