BANGKOK, 21 March 2018 (NNT) – The number of Chinese visitors to Thailand grew significantly in February, said Tourism and Sports Ministry Permanent-Secretary Pongpanu Svetarundra.
He revealed Thailand welcomed 3,566,898 foreign tourists, most of which from East Asian region, followed by Europe, America, South Asia, the Oceania, the Middle East, and Africa respectively.
That accounted for 19.33 percent increase over the same period last year, with a remarkable growth in the number of visitors from South Asia by 26.88 percent, and those from China by 51 percent, or numbering 1,200,479, most of whom having traveled during the Chinese New Year holiday.
The first three countries where most visitors traveled to Thailand were China, Malaysia, and Russia respectively.
The increased number of foreign visitors contributed to an increase in tourist expenditures, generating 195.26 billion baht in tourism-related revenue, which was 23.78 percent higher year-on-year, while the group of tourists generating the most revenue were Chinese, Russian, and French respectively.
The total number of visitors to Thailand in January-February 2018 totaled 7,111,426, accounting for a 14.96 percent rise year-on-year and generating 384.15 billion baht in revenue, which was 17.47 percent higher than the same period last year.
