BANGKOK, 20 March 2018 (NNT) - Thailand's Comptroller General's Department (CGD) has sought cooperation from banks to have electronic data capture (EDC) machines and QR code readers installed at public organizations, as the country moves toward a cashless society.

The CGD has urged public organizations to have QR code readers and EDC machines set up to collect cashless payments of utility bills. Government agencies can seek the CGD's assistance in the installation. Public organizations are expected to be ready to accommodate cashless payments no later than May.

Consumer spending via PromptPay, credit and debit cards is on the rise, as the government’s national e-payment policy is underway. It has also become more convenient for people to spend money and for entrepreneurs to do businesses online.

The CGD has continued to publicize and promote the government’s cashless society policy, giving people more payment options and reducing their reliance on cash.
