BANGKOK, 20th February 2018 (NNT) - The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is working with financial institutions to promote environmentally friendly appliances.

Deputy EGAT Governor, Seubphong Buranasirin, has signed a memorandum with Bangkok Bank, Kasikorn Bank, Siam Commercial Bank and Krungthai Card (KTC) to support the production and sale of appliances that use R600a refrigerants. From March to May this year, consumers will be able to purchase refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and water coolers on a payment plan of 0% interest for 10 months.

EGAT expects to sell up to 300,000 refrigerators under the program. These appliances are projected to reduce annual energy consumption by 47 million units, as well as annual greenhouse gas emissions by 25,000 tonnes. The figure also translates to 188 million baht in energy savings per year.

The new appliances are available at shopping malls across the country displaying the sign "Green Refrigerant."
