Record number of aquatic animals in Pak Panang coastal area caught in two decades

NAKHON SRI THAMMARAT, 17 February 2018 (NNT) - The Pak Panang District Coastal Fisheries Association announced that a record number of aquatic animals have been caught in two decades, thanks to the good water quality and strict law enforcement against illegal fishing.

Pak Panang District Coastal Fisheries Association President Manoj Duangdee said the association has over 100 fishing boats as a legal fishing community. He said fishermen in the community have caught the largest number of aquatic animals in two decades, thanks to the improved water quality from Uthokkawiphatprasit watergate under the Pak Panang river basin development project and the suppression of illegal fishing tools.

He added that the local villagers were contented with the authorities’ suppression of illegal fishing gears and alleged violators.

Pak Panang bay has 50,000-80,000 rai of mangrove forests. During a monsoon season, aquatic animals will seek shelter at the tip of the Talumpuk cape which is suitable for their breeding.

Aquatic animals? Specifically not saying fish, so turtles, dugong and whales? Prawns and crabs? Shellfish?
