BANGKOK, 14th February 2018 (NNT) – The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has prepared water pumps for farmland outside irrigated areas.

The RID Director-General, Dr. Thongplaew Kongchan, said his agency has instructed all relevant units to prepare to deal with water shortage and provide assistance to people in drought-affected areas. They will optimize the irrigation systems and prepare equipment, mobile pumps, and water trucks in 45 provinces that are facing a drought risk this year.

Dr. Thongplaew said officials officials are closely monitoring the water situation. There are 2,193 water pumps and 231 water trucks at irrigation projects nationwide.

The department has confirmed that the amount of water available in each area is enough for consumption, preserving the ecosystem and farming that requires a small amount of water during the dry season.

Dr. Thongplaew has called on all sectors to use water sparingly to reduce the risk of water shortages.
