BANGKOK, 3 February 2018 (NNT) – The Department of Religious Affairs plans to open special units to help Buddhist monks and others traveling to pilgrimage sites in India and Nepal.
Chaweerat Kasetsoontorn, assistant to the culture minister, and Department of Religious Affairs' Director-General Manus Tharatjai led members of the media on a trip to India and Nepal to observe the preparations for the opening of special units to facilitate Buddhist monks and pilgrims from Thailand at four Buddhist pilgrimage sites in those countries during 3-17 March 2018.
The department chief said the campaign was initiated from the royal wishes of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej in the establishment of the Buddhism Promotion Fund, providing Buddhist monks with the means of traveling to the land where Buddhism originated, and promote the teachings of Lord Buddha to the general public.
The offices will be opened at nine Thai temples, including one in Nepal and eight in India.
The first group of Thai pilgrims are scheduled to visit the holy sites during 3-10 March 2018, followed by a second group during 10-17 March 2018.
