Rural Roads Dept aims to use 20 bn tons of rubber for road construction in 2018

BANGKOK, 1st February 2018 (NNT) - The Department of Rural Roads has been using more rubber for road construction and maintenance, in line with the government's measure to improve rubber prices in the long term.

The Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads Department, Pisak Jitviriyavasin, said the government has a policy to promote the use of latex in building roads, as it would improve the quality of life of farmers. He said his department has been conducting a research to make a better use of latex in its road construction and maintenance projects.

This year, the Department of Rural Roads has used 10.2 billion tons of latex to build and maintain roads. The department will seek an additional budget to increase the amount of latex used by 10 billion tons. The department will also use a total of 20.2 billion tons of latex for 1,340 road maintenance and construction projects in 2018.

The use of latex will allow roads to support more weight and have a higher quality/ Using latex also helps rubber farmers and stabilizes rubber prices in the country.

Somehow I doubt there would be that much rubber/latex available worldwide seems like they plucked a fanciful number straight out of their arse !

    There's always a catch.

Adding rubber to asphalt produces a road surface tougher and more durable than plain asphalt, but comes at a higher cost.
