    Government continues to open safety zones

    BANGKOK, 22nd January 2018 (NNT) – The government has continued to open safety areas to establish equality among people and suppress mafia influences nationwide.

    The Defense Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, has ordered a widespread crackdown on criminal gangs to stop them from troubling the general public and the country.

    Gen. Prawit said the operations are targeting influential figures, illegal immigrants, and gangs involved in drug and human trafficking.

    The Spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, Lt. Gen. Kongcheep Tantrawanit, said the anti-crime drive has received cooperation from public members who have provided valuable infomation about criminal activities to security officials.

    Lt. Gen. Kongcheep said the problem of mafia in the country can be solved with the government's full commitment and public cooperation.

    Deputy PM lays out policy for police

    BANGKOK, 1st February 2018 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Gen.Prawit Wongsuwon has instructed the police to suppress drug trafficking and Mafia activities more intensively. He stressed that the anti-money laundering law must be enforced in such cases.

    The deputy PM on Thursday presided over a meeting on the police’s policy with Royal Thai Police Commissioner-General Pol.Gen.Chakthip Chaichinda and high-ranking police officers. The national police chief said after the meeting that Gen. Prawit delivered his policy on the police force in four areas, including narcotic drugs, Mafia and hired gunmen, visa overstay and arrests of suspects at large.

    The deputy premier instructed the police immigration bureau and relevant units to minimize visa overstay cases and submit their report on progress to the national police chief within two months.

    There are 282 suspects with bounties on them who remain at large. Some of them were once government officers.
