Flooding in most parts of Phuket has eased with the exception of some low-lying area and authorities believe that the situation will return to normal very soon if there is no more rain on Friday night (Sept 15).
However, the provincial administration has advised residents in vulnerable areas to be on the alert as flooding may recur due to the presence of rain clouds covering most parts of the island province.
Officials today advised occupants of about 10 houses in Tambon Ratsada in Muang district to evacuate for their safety after it was found that the structures of their houses are not strong after the houses were partly damaged by a collapsed wall.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has instructed officials in 52 provinces to closely follow up weather reports and to increase the frequency of rain measurement as more rain is anticipated from today until next Monday (Sept 18) due to depression.
Officials were told to start evacuating people in vulnerable areas if the amount of rain water exceeds 90 mm/day.
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, Typhoon Doksuri has weakened into tropical storm as it made landfall in Vietnam and the tropical storm has moved to cover Laos and northeastern part of Thailand before it weakens into depression.
This will result in more widespread rain and very heavy rain in some areas from today until Monday.
