Police to introduce barcode traffic tickets

BANGKOK, 21 August 2017 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Police is preparing to introduce new traffic tickets later this year and bring back the penalty point system.

According to the Royal Government Gazette, the latest traffic tickets will contain English translations and barcodes, allowing motorists to pay fines at branches of Krung Thai Bank with Police Ticket Management (PTM) booths. The new system will come into effect within 120 days.

Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police Pol Lt Gen Wittaya Prayongpan disclosed that the e-ticketing system, which will be released in December, will allow ticket holders to contest fines if they can prove that the offending vehicle does not belong to them. The English translations will also help foreigners with traffic violations comply with penalties.

Traffic tickets issued by police and those sent to motorists by post will remain in use. The Royal Thai Police explained that the new system aims to facilitate record-keeping and compliance with traffic regulations. Police also plan to revive the penalty point system to deter traffic violations and is discussing the issue with relevant agencies.

Fooking police don't enforce traffic laws at the moments. What's the incentive to make them do it in the future?

I'm confused by that. It's irrespective if the vehicle doesn't or does belong to them if they were actually driving the bloody thing.

Possibly if the offense was observed from afar and the ticket posted? Like speed camera tickets.

In that case the owner of the car is the automatic offender irrespective of who the driver was. I believe that's how it works for speed camera fines. Up to the owner to either declare who the real driver was or get the penalty off the driver himself and then pay it.

Or someone using the same plate number as you, it does happen here. The case I witnessed wasn't false plates thought, same numbers but from a different province...the cars were differents (pick up Vs sedan) that made it easier to prove. In Farangland the guys up to no good tend to duplicate plates from a car of the same model and color.

So you just pay your 100bt before they issue the barcoded ticket.

    Same same.
