Hotel with unusual design isn’t falling down: experts

The unusual shape of a new hotel being built in Bangkok has caused panic among some city residents after rumours spread on social media that it is collapsing.

Lumpini Police Station’s superintendent Pol Lt-Colonel Duangchot Suwancharas said on Tuesday that he had received complaints about the building and dispatched his subordinates to check. “We have found out that the rumours are not true. It’s just that this building is designed differently from others,” Duangchot said.

...which in Thailand may not always elicit the reaction 'Oh look...there's a building there skilfully designed to look like it's crumbling.'

Years ago I refused to visit the revolving restaurant at the Baiyoke tower.

Didn't trust Thai engineering especially that high up

Maybe it wasn't the intention to build it like that at first.

But the designer was a bit laid back

There's a revolving restaurant there? I went for the international buffet there but it wasn't revolving, the rooftop was revolving thought, worked great but an automated walkway is easier to implement than a revolving floor.

Can't find the article but I read that the guy who shared and commented pictures of the leaning building is wanted by police for causing panic with misleading information, he could face up to 5 years jail term and/or a 100k fine... Can't remember more details

Poster of a “leaning” building at Ploenchit to face lawsuit

Lumphini police have issued warrant for the poster of a video clip of a hotel building in Ploenchit area to report and acknowledge criminal charge for causing panic after it said the building is leaning and is near collapse.

The police took action on a Facebook user, Dr Kanoksak Chongchaipak or widely known as “Mor Earth” , a well-known skin doctor, after the company’s representative which owns the 33-storey building, known as Rosewood Bangkok, lodged complaint with the police over the false information spread on the social media.

On Aug 15 at about 12.45pm Dr Kanoksak posted on his Facebook that the building is leaning and subsiding. He also wrote that construction work had been stopped as the building was about to collapse.

Lumphini police said they summoned the poster for violation of the Computer Crime Act as his false post was “shared” by over 100 Facebook users.

His post was false and had created social disorder and panic, the police said.

If the poster does not report to the police, a second warrant will be issued and follow by arrest warrant if the second warrant is ignored, the police said.

The police said they would also consider whether to summon other user if they have intention to spread false news.

However if they just intended to warn others to be careful, then it is not a violation of the law.

Earlier Metropolitan Police Bureau commissioner Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn said any post in the social media that was proved to be false and created panic to the people, the poster could face 5 years in prison and a fine of no more than 100,000 baht,or facing both.

Pathumwan district director Morakot Sanittangkul earlier said officials were sent to check the building and found no indication it was actually leaning over or subsiding, but it was the building’s design.

The 33-storey building is being developed by Rende Ploenchit Hotel Co, and will be known as Rosewood Bangkok. It is scheduled to open in 2019.

Maybe the skin doctor has travelled outside of Thailand and learned about sarcasm, and this was his little joke?

Not dissimilar to an april fools joke. I doubt he was deadly serious about it.
