And the very fact that you think evolution has something to do with design has me slowly backing towards the door and looking for an escape route.

IMO, the noselifts, skin whiteners, boob lifts - it's wanting to be perceived rich AND farang. All throughout SEA, even in S America, the Caribean, Africa - there are loads of ads for skin lighteners. In PI, as well as all of SEA (except Th) - these countries have been colonized by whites. The colonial masters were rich, had power, and were white w/ tall noses. The natives were oppressed, poor, short, dark-skinned, w/ flat noses. Not all, but in general. So it's not just pop culture or Hollywood which is the influence now, it's the influence of years of colonization.

Take a look at the contestants for Ms Universe etc - most SEA contestants have tall noses & farang-like features.

Maybe in Thailand's case, it's more of wanting to be Chinese, since the Sino-Thai are the ones with power & rich (and white).

Tbh, some (not all) of you guys on here disparage the dark skiined Isaan girls. Not just the BGs, but in general.

I believe that The word "Siam" was a reference from lighter Chinese people referencing the darker skinned people in what is now Thailand and was a form of denigration. "Whiteness" has been considered a thing of beauty by many cultures long before the whiteman arrived on the scene. It was said that sailors on first arriving on south pacific islands had no problems attracting women due to their white skin. My daughter who has very white northern european skin is always getting comments from Thai women. The good lady Cow has fair skin as do I so not surprising. Have seen many gorgeous dark skinned women in Thailand and have gone out with a few in days of yore. This obsession in thailand for white skin has always fascinated me. Then again women in the west wear fake tan or spend hours at the beach.

To be honest Katie, they have to share some of the blame for that. They ar poor farming stock with limited opportunity to break out of the prison built for them by the entitled HiSo elites, who have kept them oppressed for centuries.
Many of them are smart enough to break the oppressive shackles of their culture, but society forbids it. Thaksin almost built an empire on it and look what the elites did to him.

That you have never heard the expression 'evolutionary design' is a bit of a worry.
Without inherent design parameters, evolution would be a bit shit. Hope this helps.

That you think "evolutionary design" is a biological term is even more worrying. It's a computer science/engineering term. Nothing to do with biology.

DNA changes may move slowly but there is a predictable consequence to the way it changes. DNA is way smarter than computers or man made engineering. Biology is probably the key to AI.

There is nothing planned in evolution. There are random changes. Changes propagate if they are advantageous, they disappear if they are disadvantages.

Which hints at intelligent design. Similar to women in third world countries having large families as a hedge against mortality rates.

Nonsense. It does nothing of the kind. Are you aware what the words "advantage" and "disadvantage" mean? In the context of promoting ones genes?

Yes, but I also challenge perceived wisdom that selection of the process is entirely random.
Using the word random excuses scientists from digging into a truly complex science that has still only scratched the surface of DNA. We do not need more acceptance of idleness, but more challenging of accepted norms.
