LAMPANG, 21 March 2017 (NNT) - Wildfires have been detected in six more locations in three districts in Lampang province. The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation has specifically expressed concerns about four northern provinces' unsafe amounts of dust particles.
Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Korbchai Boonorana said forest fires in the North often took place in mountainous areas with poor ventilation. The four provinces with unsafe amounts of dust particles in the air include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Lampang. The department provided machines and water trucks for the provinces and asked for artificial rain in the region to decrease air pollution caused by the wildfires.
Wildland firefighters in Lampang are extinguishing wildfires in the six locations. In Mae Mo district, the air pollution still exceeds safe levels.
In Chiang Mai, the level of dust particles in the air exceeded safe levels due to burning in many areas over the last three years and a west wind that brought smog from Mae Hong Son province and Myanmar. However, the latest amount of dust particles decreased to below unsafe levels.
