PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, 9 January 2017 (NNT) – The Royal Irrigation Department (RID) has dismissed the rumor about the Pong Samsip and Khlong Loi reservoirs being breached.
Following a rumor about Samsip and Khlong Loi reservoirs being breached, RID Deputy Director General Thongplew Kongchan explained that heavy downpours in Bang Saphan district in Prachuap Khiri Khan province created a water surge that exceeded the capacity of the two small reservoirs and caused water to flow out through spillways, but not over the reservoir crest.
The RID has advised 1,000 households in five villages located in the back of the reservoirs in the province to evacuate to a safe place, according to the RID Deputy Director General.
The water flow out of the two reservoirs was just due to an excessive amount of water and did not affect the stability of the reservoirs at all, the Deputy Director General said.
He went on to say that there has been moderate to heavy rain in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi provinces but it is expected that the reservoir situation will improve tomorrow.
