SURAT THANI - A suspect arrested for allegedly bludgeoning a 70-year-old man to death in Muang district has claimed he was provoked by the victim, who scolded his parents and threatened to kill his family.
Sirichai Khotchasiripong, 40, was apprehended at a rented house in tambon Makham Tia on Tuesday on charges of killing Sophon Ruangphan on Dec 24, said Pol Maj Gen Apichart Boonsriroj, chief of Surat Thani police.
Mr Suphon, 70, was sleeping on a chair in the pavilion at the Nirit pier when an intruder hit him on the head with a hammer late on Saturday night. He was found dead with the hammer still lodged in his skull.
The police investigation led to the arrest of Mr Sirichai.
