11-year-old violently hit til deaf by school director in Isaan

Not even a week after news of a mug-throwing teacher caused public outrage, a school director in Isaan has reportedly hit an 11-year-old to the point that the student became deaf. The director attacked after the student was not willing to stand for the national anthem

On 15 September 2016, representatives from the Sri Muang Mai District Police Station in Ubon Ratchathani sent a case-file containing accusations against Winai Wongsasuk, director of Nong Hang School, to a public prosecutor, Matichon Online reported.

The school director stands accused by the family of the student, referred to anonymously as ‘A’, of physically assaulting A in June.

According to A’s family, Winai violently slapped A across the face and ears many times and elbowed the sixth grade student in the head during a morning school assembly in front of other students at the school. A suffered from a severe headache and nosebleed after the assault.

Papphavadee Thitisan, A’s grandmother, filed a complaint against Winai on 8 June.

She said that after three months of medical treatment, A’s hearing remains lost and he cannot see clearly.

“I feel very sad and feel pity for my grandchild as he is a ‘special child’ because his mental development is slower than others,” said Papphavadee.

A’s grandmother added that the school director admitted that he assaulted A and offered her 2,000 baht compensation, but she refused to accept the money.

A’s classmates said that Winai hit A because he did not want to stand for the national anthem as he was feeling tired.

Papphavadee told media that she also filed a complaint to the 3rd Region Primary School Office of Ubon Ratchathani, but has received no response.

Yeah! It's an absolute insult, and only sheer arrogance would lead to that paltry offer.

At least the police have taken it to court. Quite surprised by that, actually.

Given the Thais track record of seeking and extracting revenge I'm very surprised that these abused Kids family do not just track the Perps down and do a job on them.

Seems a perfectly fair and just end to teachers abusing kids.

Sometimes they're overcome by rage and don't think. Still any teacher who finds themself getting that angry at a chilld has should realize he or she has problem and needs to remove themselves from the situation (at least temporarily) before it reaches that point.

We all do and say stupid things when we are angry.

Yes we do but a teacher in the West would be in Jail for doing that.

Here in Thailand the coonts get away with it. I don't get it really.

Surely the families could inflict some pain and suffering on the Teachers here who seriously attack children.

The average Isaan peasant is far too gutless and supine to stand up for himself. They are craven cowards utterly compliant at the feet of any hierarchy and lack both the will and the intelligence to act independently against any abusive authority. In truth, they are mere domesticated dogs at the feet of their masters. Does that put it on the map for you Terence?

the majority of thai men, weak willed, lazy, inadequate, poorly educated and immature, breastfed, spoonfed, spoiled and worshipped by their doting mothers until adolescence are ill eqipped to deal with any situation in which their authority is challenged or their demands and expectations are not met.

it doesnt matter whether their antagonist is a woman, a soi dog or a child with learning difficulties, if they are physically weaker then the chickenhead will quickly resort to violence to assert his authority.

reason and sense are anathema to them and bullying and violence are the default states.

When I eventually get to Thailand I will invite you to say that to my cousins, face to face. I should be able to sell hundreds of tickets, enough possibly, to pay for your subsequent medical treatment.

I would have commented less crudely and less of a derogatory inferior nature, but you're base sociological examination is quite accurate, TheGent...

Thais are bound instinctively not to [not all, of course] question or challenge a base of false authoritarian rule - be they average country bumpkin or university professor - be it by rote or nature.

same with any sensation, jealousy, greed etc.

Thailand and education is a bit of an oxymoron. Emphasis on the morn. Class sizes need to be cut and most teachers with fired or retrained.

They probably think something similar to when a wasp suddenly appears near their face - fear, panic, confusion, and a sudden intense impulse to hop up and down flailing their arms around until the problem goes away... then go and hurt some innocent wasp children to make themselves feel safe again... but all the time worrying about it... checking below themselves every time they go to the toilet, or when in bed at night... fear that wasp karma will get them and their guilty conscience.

While I don't condone the abuse, what would happen to an American student who didn't stand to the national anthem simply because they were too tired? Not because of an opinion, but just because they were too lazy?

Let's face it, getting from a sitting to a standing position doesn't take a lot of effort, even for Thai children.
