Chinese Tourists Tempt Fate For Crocodile-Baiting Fun

PATTAYA — Apart from ziplining at break-neck speed and riding trample-prone giants, here comes another tourist attraction to savagely tear at safety conventions.

At Elephant Kingdom near the coastal enclave of Pattaya, guests are loaded onto rafts without safety vests and pushed into a pond full of hungry crocodiles, who are best placated by hurling dead chickens to.

Photos of water churning with enormous, toothy jaws snapping at Chinese tourists floating on bamboo rafts went viral this week, drawing attention to an attraction that has reportedly been in business several years.

    What could possible go wrong?

(I did something similar in Australia many years ago, but it was on a huge boat with the 'park ranger' feeding the crocs.)

No point in feeding them Chinese, they'll just be hungry again in an hour.

Nothing wrong with a little real danger now and then, much more satisfying than the nanny state where you can't even risk your own safety without breaking laws.

Exactly why many leave innit. The Nanny state is boring as fook compared to this shit house.

Saying that, I'm so glad I have it to go back too when ever i want.

You're right about the freedom part, and I've done everything from being a cop to flying single engine planes to skydiving to riding a motorcycle in this place. Still, danger for no point whatsoever like feeding these dangerous animals seems stupid, especially when done for commerical profit and in a country in which the owner will not be held responsible when the inevitable finally happens.

There was one picture of this somewhere in which you could see one of the pontoons that keeps it floating was already starting to deform (flatten on top where it connects to the platform). The result will be inevitable if that thing is overloaded or not maintained.

    Feeding banned at crocodile farm

A CROCODILE farm in Chon Buri was hit with a ban by the Fisheries Department yesterday on allowing tourists to board a floating platform to feed fully-grown crocodiles in its pond.

Chon Buri chief fisheries officer Bancha Sukkaew served the order from the department chief to operators of "Anachak Chang" (the "Realm of the Elephant") farm in Pattaya.

The order prohibited tourists from using the platform to feed hungry crocodiles by hoisting chicken meat on rods in the middle of the crocodile pond.

The farm's activities have been widely debated after a tourist posted a video clip on Facebook showing tourists teasing the crocodiles by lifting the meat away when the reptiles jumped into the air to try to catch the food.

Many men shared the clip and posted notes saying they wished they had a chance to take their wives to the farm.

Bancha said Fisheries director-general Adisorn Promptep had seen the clip and believed the activities were not safe.

Tourists who went to the farm in Pattaya yesterday and were disappointed after being told the farm was temporarily closed.

The order suspended the licence of the crocodile farm for tourist activities for 90 days until the farm improves its safety.
