    Obec orders English class hours boost

    Starting this November, students from Prathom 1 (Grade 1) to Prathom 3 (Grade 3) will have to spend more time learning English as a part of the state's attempts to improve the country's language proficiency.

    Deputy Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin, who oversees the policy of increasing English in schools, said English in schools under the supervision of Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) will be taught for five hours a week, or 200 hours a semester, up from one hour a week or 40 hours a term now.

    If they really wanted they could simply have English language programs on TV and not dub the movies.

    I wonder what they are going to remove from the curriculum in order to be able to fit in an extra four hours a week of English.

    You're so right, let's scrap the poor Thai dubbing and put thai subtitles instead...they sound so weirds, as if they hired dumb and dumber to do the thai voices ...

    Considering officially that more than 90% of thai people are literate, it shouldn't cause problem (except for those doing the voices)
