Salam Browser: The world’s first ‘halal’ web browser

SAFE and secure browsing, no annoying pop-up adverts and easy navigation of the treacherous, often-haram waters of the internet – these are the promises of Salam Browser as it makes its foray into the tricky world of internet surfing, with some interesting results.

The latest in a growing list of halal or sharia-compliant products and services, Salam Browser claims to adhere to “adab”, which loosely translates as Islamic etiquette. According to the website, this means web browsing with Salam will “help maintain purity of your heart and benefits your values”.

Another significant feature of the browser is that it helps users “avoid haram online”, claiming to have alerts on over 1.4 million webpages with content related to pornography, gambling, “offense to religion”, and other harmful content.

“Haram” is the Arabic term for “forbidden”, and can refer to anything off-limits for Muslims such as pornography, gambling, pork, alcohol, and adultery.

The new browser, which launched this year, has gained popularity online, albeit from rather incredulous......

Upon request, we searched for the term “MILF” (Mother I’d Like to F**k) to compare the results between Chrome and Salam, and found that Salam throws up results for Moro Islamic Liberation Front, an independence movement started in the Philippines.

Seems a good idea. If you're into that sort of thing.

I think I can guess which of those two sentences will be quoted.

If you don't want to be offended, don't go on the internet.

You'd think the Moro Islamic Liberation fukcwits would have changed their name or least acronym by now, if they really wanted to get taken seriously?
To something other than a porno sub-genre, at least.

So it's basically like loads of parental-control extensions you can get for Firefox or Chrome but with the advantage of opening the door to a bit of Muslim-bashing. Thank God somebody tracked this story down.

I guess a big part of this browser's appeal will be for parents concerned about their kids. Also it might bring some of the big wide world to people who might otherwise have no internet connection.

It's a pity Asian correspondent couldn't gave displayed a bit more maturity themselves with this story. It's as if it was written by a sniggering fifteen year old.

Has anyone tried yet whether Teakdoor opens on this browser?

What happens to Sofia and her friends?

I've just downloaded it and installed it. It is just like Chrome but with the addition of "Salam Safe Browsing" (Safe Browsing extension protects your browsing experience by blocking online threats) and "Salam Protect" (Protect extension notifies you about inappropriate content you see on the Internet).

They are still there but adding and enabling the Addblock plus extension removes them.

I did a couple of quick tests. The first one was for "camel toe" images. I got almost exactly the same images using the Salam browser as with using standard Chrome, but nothing too explicit.

I then went on to search for "porn". Standard Chrome gave me lots of, err, fleshy images. The Salam browser, however, gave me several images of Ted Cruz, quite a few bald men and men with glasses, and Boris Johnson. Make what you will of that! The only dubious picture using Salam was of a couple of coconuts that had been shaped into a phallus. And Boris Johnson of course.

Searching for "tits" got me a few feathered friends and Iain-Duncan-Smith. Looks like this Salam browser is a keeper!
