Two Chiang Rai Teens Busted for Smuggling 400,000 Speed Pills

CHIANG RAI – Two hilltribe teenagers hired to smuggle yaba (Methamphetamine Pills) have been arrested with 400,000 speed pills in their suitcases on a Bangkok-bound bus. The bus was stopped for a search in Chiang Rai late Thursday night.

Mae Lao police stopped the Chiang Rai-Bangkok interprovincial passenger bus at a road checkpoint in tambon Dong Mada in Mae Lao district at around 9.30pm, following a tip that traffickers would be smuggling a large quantity of drugs into Bangkok via a passenger bus.

The officers searched the bus and noticed two young teenagers, aged 15, acting suspiciously.

When they checked their bags in the luggage compartment of the bus they found packages containing 200,000 speed pills in each bag, totalling 400,000 pills.

The two young boys, confessed they had picked up the drugs from a friend at a border area in Mae Sai district.

The drugs would be sent to Ayutthaya, where someone would later come to smuggle them into Bangkok.

If the drugs were sucessfully delivered, they would receive 300,000 baht for the job, said the suspects.

They admitted they had previously been hired to smuggle drugs before being arrested.

"They admitted they had previously been hired to smuggle drugs before being arrested."

If they had done it before, they had presumably been paid before.

I think 15 year olds are tried in the Juvenile Courts so may get a lighter sentence than the 'life' they could expect if they were adults.

Given the source is the police one wonders just how you can actually consider any inference and/or deduction to be worth the effort......

It is of course wise to treat any news one reads with a degree of scepticism, but it would be a dull old world if we simply ignored anything that did not confirm our own prejudices.

1bt/tab is the going rate, so a middle man who passed the job on to the teens probably pocketed 100k.
