Thailand to show responsibility by running for non-permanent UN Securty Council seat

BANGKOK, 2 May 2016 (NNT) -The Thai Ambassador to the United Nations Virachai Plasai, said today that Thailand aims to show responsibility to the world community by running as a candidate for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.

Mr. Virachai said Thailand is well placed to maintain global peace and security since this country could act as a good and flexible coordinator and could negotiate with all sides, including the permanent member countries of the U.N. Security Council (P5).

Besides, he said, Thailand plays an independent and constructive role in pursuing its foreign policy and has joined more than 20 peace-keeping missions.

He asserted that internal politics wouldn't obstruct Thailand's effectiveness as a non-permanent member in the U.N. Security Council. Moreover, Thailand, as an ASEAN member state, has played a leading role in the Southeast Asian region.

This has been suggested before, when the country had a democratically elected government. 'aint gonna happen. The UN would prefer not to appoint a government led by dictatorial thugs.

As opposed to repeatedly overthrowing the democratic vote, killing it's own citizens, blatant double 'judicial' standards, regular military coups, repression and economic stagnation under the current military dictatorship? Turning the shining star of Asean into the mangy soi dog, in the space of a decade?

Glad they've got their priorities right. Needless to say, they can ask and beg all they want, but....

The UN can be a bit like a Glastonbury pop festival or a Burning Man gig in that so much of what it does is just sooooo fucking irrelevant to anything remotely associated with reality.
Appointing Thailand for any role fits quite well, therefore. Remember. Gaddafi and Libya were given the Chair for the UN Human Rights commission in 2003.

The world is in so many ways simply a rather complex turd.

Never mind....deep down, they don't get it - never have.
A psychosis that goes way back - decades.

See themselves in a grandiose manner, which is to be expected.
    Very Thai.
