CHIANG MAI — A foreign man was arrested and fined 100 baht today in Chiang Mai for violating the junta’s ban on indecent dress while splashing water during the first day of Songkran.

At the time of arrest the man was shirtless and carrying a water gun. The temperature was expected to reach 41C in Chiang Mai today according to the Thai Meteorological Department.

Update: The shirtless man has been identified as a 28-year-old British man known as "Jimmy" according to police.

Look at the guy... he looks like a right pot head, albeit a destitute one. He was probably done on that misdemeanour so plod could take him to his digs, see his passport and search for his wacky backy stash.

The reporter is in BKK, he sites no source in CM, just a photo, story could have read, faramg arrested for under sized water pistol.

Before I believe anything on the net, I want an informant, police, farang and or witnesses, until then, it's an unconfirmed page filler.

I know who he is and I don't really care a rats ass about the story, just find that people read an unsubstantiated story, on the net and believe blindly that it is the truth.

^Well, Jim, he's a foreigner, he has no shirt, he's in the cop shop being banged up for something, he's carrying the weapon of choice, thus for most people, there is no real reason to doubt the veracity of the story.

In today's LOS, it makes perfect sense.

Or, he's reporting to the helpful officer that his shirt was stolen and filing a report.
