A huge king cobra was captured after it fled flooding in the jungle to seek refuge on the roof of a house in Village 7, Tambon Seekheed, Sichon district of Nakhon Si Thammarat.
At first, it was reported the villagers thought the snake of just a python lying on the roof of Mr Sompote Katethanom. So they used a long stick tied with a rope formed in the shape of a loop to catch the snake which turned out to be huge poisonous king cobra.
The villagers managed to catch the snake but could not subdue it and they called for the help of rescue workers from Tai Tek Toeng foundation who used a snake catching tool to subdue the king cobra and put it in a sack.
The king cobra was measured from head to the tip of its tail at three metres long which was regarded as huge. It was later released deep in the jungle.
Meanwhile, provincial officials have warned villagers in the countryside to be on the alert for poisonous snakes which often flee to dry ground from flooding in their habitat.
