Four civic groups filed a lawsuit with the environment department of Songkhla Administrative Court demanding that the Samila-Chalathat sand erosion prevention project be scrapped.

Named as defendants by the four civic groups are the governor of Songkhla, the Natural Resources and Environment Office, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the Harbour Department and Songkhla municipality.

The groups which include the Songkhla Forum, the Beach for Life Club, the Volunteer Lawyers Group and the Kao Seng fishing community charged that the project was illegitimate in essence and process and it goes against the wish of the local people.

The groups also demanded that the court issues an injunction to suspend all the construction work pending a trial of the case.
