It's simply Impossible for the Security guards to do a proper inspection of punters bags.
terry, i have just returned from china. i went in to a railway station and my bag went into an airport style x ray machine and i was thoroughly frisked in a booth for over a minute and then gone over with an electronic wand.

it was the same for everybody going into to this station. there were no long queues because they had a dozen lines all manned. this was not in beijing, but in a provincial town.

there was none of the slack jawed lazy mai pen rai cant be bothered approach so common to everything in thailand. the chinese security guards doing the checking were proud of their jobs and carried out the job they had been trained and paid to do thoroughly and professionally.

nobody should be able to carry an explosive package onto the skytrain.

It's probably because the consequences of getting caught not doing their job are pretty grim, unlike Thailand.....

Yes fair enough and good work on their behalf.

But back to the real world for five seconds.

Now given the massive Malls in Bangkok especially MBK, Micky Mouse could walk in there packing a ton of TNT and blow the 6Th floor restaurant all the way back to China.

It's impossible to stop these determined people.

No security or checks can stop these people.

Their targets are every where when ever they want to bring it on.

My wife is staying at her sisters near Siam just in case. No sense trying to get across town with this mess. My thoughts are with the families now. I hope this is an isolated incident, Killing innocents to make a point is despicable.

I would go further than that and say that it's simply piss poor.

Given the terrorism through out this world to turn it around and blame the Thai is simply fuked.

it was not thai bashing, it was a statement of fact.

bbc are reporting that an unexploded device was found on the skytrain, if that is the case then how did it manage to get through the security seeing as they have guards checking bags at the entrances and guards patrolling the platforms.

the tragedy is that they dont do their jobs properly.

I mean lets get a grip here Eh.

In greater Bangkok there are 12 million punters so at any given time at any given place a terrorist can pick his mark and blow up a given target.

To try and turn it around and say that security was lax is simply retarded.

Inside an Airport I would agree with this scenario but in the City of Bangkok it's simply not relevant.

my comments are related to the bomb reportedly found on the skytrain, not the one in the street.

What? A country that has permitted the annual carnage of over 25,000 deaths a year on their roads and a murder rate through gunplay etc of over 4,000 and you want to cut them some slack because a bomb went off in an urban area killing 25 or so? A country that has seen over 5,000 deaths in the South in ten years and despite this toll there hasn't been a single attempt at any meaningful negotiation? A country that has seen a military coup dismantling their democracy in a swoop that shows no sign of abating.

Frankly, it's amazing there hasn't been an outrage like this before in Bangkok.

Watching BBC World is of course a miserable experience and having to listen to adolescent news commentators recruited out of social need wittering on about the event is simply adding insult to injury. One of them actually said that security around Ratchaprasong was habitually "really tight" with many police and army personnel in attendance - a shambling collection of assorted nose pickers and bored individuals hanging around and waiting to bugger off and have a good time elsewhere is good security?

    So you tell me,

How can a public transport system in any country on this earth actually provide a screening system that will prevent this situation from happening ?

The fact being, it's simply impossible to do their job properly given the amount of human traffic at any time of the day and the lack of 100 % screening process.

You know this, Your posts are simply not relevant or realistic.

They are in fact how it should be but cannot be.

There are no physical checks on the Skytrain, only on the MRT.

Like a thread today I read here: there will be more declines in tourism.

I don't like "speculating" but some are pointing to the Uighurs, although I don't think that's logical, nor good PR for them.

Article on Thailand deporting Uighurs (again I don't believe this is the cause):

    thats exactly my point.

agreed they cant. but the mai pen rai approach to security on the skytrain, whereby the guards will not challenge you if you walk straight through, even if the walkthrough metal detector machine beeps, is more than enough encouragement for someone "to have a go"

Tax, whereas there are checks at every British airport there are no checks on the rail network or the various British underground networks. In an open society this is the norm. China is a dictatorship imposed by an army of over 5 millions and their citizens are in jail.
Get real and loosen that Yorkshire girdle, you're showing your Boycotts.

    Sky News:

A second bomb inside the shrine has been discovered and defused, while there are reports of a third device on a train that teams are working to neutralise.
