But I don't think that sign means much either, I have yet to ever see anyone, patron or employee or employer ever wash their hands, I mean wash with soap and water, not just get em damn and dry them on a dirty rag.
even after petting and playing with a cat or dog, pick something up from the floor, or ever wash a dish in clean water with soap, just slosh them or the utensils around in a bucket of dirty water and thats it, and the water is most likely where a lot of the coliforms are coming from, cesspools all over the place, a well sunk 4 meters in the ground right next to the cesspool and that water used for sanitary water for the joint and the dishes.
Damn and people wonder why I never eat away from home over 3 times a year,,, Damn..

We have one of those wells too, we haven't pumped out of it in years, we use harvested roof water for all household uses, and drink and cook with bottle water.
There is an electric tankless water heater right next to the sink and the dishes are washed in hot rain water, thats about as good as we can get it.

Some of the younger folks here have an immune system, you know. I rarely get the squits, and I eat most things here.

Myself, I am a little choosy when it comes to eating shit. I was raised by clean people that were civilized and was taught to wash my hands, respect others food and keep it clean, now if you were raised to eat with the hogs and sleep under the fukin house, then thats your business, I wasn't.

When I have had to work out in the brush and eat with the locals that was a little diff, but I do not have to do it because it makes me feel good and brings back childhood memories.

I am glad you benefitted from your German upbringing, pity you didn't manage to pass the values on to the next generation.
Now, in old age you otta be careful with the nurse you employ, as you don't have the same tastebuds, 48 years on the booze take their toll, you know. You might just get some shite spoonfed to you, like that makrut you mistook for a lemon before without noticing any difference in taste.

If you live in asia for a while you develop an asian belly, and you don't get poisoned too often. I've only had gastro once in the year i've been living here- and that was last week!
Thailand ain't switzerland, but it's a whole lot safer than indonesia food wise. And I reckon that 'clean food, good taste' initiative has been helpful in improving standards.

I'm thankful that activated charcoal tablets are available in Thailand.

Coliform bacteria are found everywhere ...we are covered with them, so saying that they are found on utensils means nothing ... you wouldnt expect anything else.

Its only when you find E. Coli which itself is an indicator of faecal contamination somewhere down the line that there can be problems.
