Thailand and Russia yesterday affirmed their cooperation to boost trade and investment during bilateral talk in Myanmar.
The cooperation was pledged as Thai Prime MinisterbGen Prayut Chan-o-cha met his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev during a bilateral meeting at the 25th ASEAN Summit in Myanmar.
The two leaders congratulated each other for their long-standing ties ahead of the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2017.
As Thailand was a popular destination for Russian travelers, Gen Prayut assured Mr Medvedev that the Kingdom was a safe place to visit and that his government would put in the best effort to ensure the well-being of all visitors.
Gen Prayut thanked Russia for increasing its imports of Thai agricultural products, including fruits, vegetables and canned foods, while expressing hope that the value of bilateral trade would double to about 10 billion US dollars by the year 2016.
He also extended his invitation to Russia to make investment in Thailand’s infrastructure development projects.
In return, Mr Medvedev voiced readiness to drive forward the two countries’ trade and investment cooperation, saying he would further expand the market for Thai produces within Russia.
The Russian premier considered Thailand one of Russia’s leading partners in ASEAN and insisted that bilateral cooperation would be increased in many areas, such as energy, tourism and cultural exchange.
He also invited Gen Prayut to visit Russia.
