PHUKET: A Supercheap truck that clipped the rear of a pickup on a central Phuket road today and caused a serious crash was being driven by an unlicenced Burmese, say police.

The driver, Kyaw Soe Oo, 20, was not injured but two other Burmese in the vehicle were seriously hurt and have been admitted to hospital.

The truck was travelling toward Patong from Phuket City along Phra Phuket Keaw Road when it clipped the rear of a pickup waiting to do a u-turn. Three women were in the pickup.

The Supercheap vehicle roared on, demolishing a power pole and almost ending up in a nearby lagoon.

Officers from Thungthong Police Station said that while it appeared as though the roadway needed modifying to create room for a proper u-turn lane, the driver of the Supercheap vehicle appeared to be driving too fast.

Supercheap vehicles have been involved in more crashes on Phuket than vehicles belonging to more responsible brands.
