I've always been interested in the number of posters here who hate Thailand, and Thais. It does beg the question, "Why then do you live in Thailand?"

Realizing that many of these Thai haters don't live in Thailand, that begs the question. "Why then do you bother to post on a Thai forum?"

Before the question is asked, No, I do not live in Thailand. Nor do I hate Thais or Thailand. I post here because I once lived in Thailand for six years, visit frequently, and have friends there.

Just always found it strange for people to live in a foreign country that they hate, and whose people they detest.

Hate is perhaps misleading. Despise is a more accurate term. Quitting a country simply because one despises most of the population is silly. If that were to be the criterion then no one would live anywhere for it is a feature of the human condition that most societies are in the main scarcely tolerable.

I quite like pad thai, drinking lager at sundown most nights of the year, gazing at an endless succession of attractive women, etc and it's possible to maintain a lifestyle without too many irritations. I still despise their society, their hypocrisy and their lack of moderation but nothing will change that.

You can get a Pad Thai in most Countries, you can get a beer in most Countries and you can leer a woman in most Countries , so, why stay in a Country that you despise?

Clearly, you have never been to Scunthorpe.

The point, yet again seemingly lost upon the less intellectually blessed here, is that what I have described is not available in any one place throughout the entire world on any given day in any particular year.

Thailand offers the whole package and it is for that reason one settles here. Their society and it's cultural hallmarks are quite irrelevant.

The trick is to enjoy one's prejudices and find solace in them as any superior being might do when sharing space with imbeciles and compelled to observe their antics.

I am in a majority of one but then, that is the case wherever I may be.

^Kind of a sad outlook on life, in my opinion, but at least you're honest about it.
