Yep, the Thais are dumb like a fox

Bar girls with a grade school education convince relatively wealthy foreigners to marry them and build houses on land that they (the foreigner) doesn't own

The Thais know far more about foreigners than foreigners (actually) know about them

Amyotha Hluttaw Speaker U Khin Aung Myint has offered to act as personal guarantor in the case of the two Myanmar men accused of murder in Thailand.

The speaker said on November 26 he would stand surety for Ko Zaw Lin and Ko Win Zaw Htun, the Myanmar migrant workers accused of killing two British tourists in Thailand’s Koh Tao Island on September 15.

The speaker said he had called on Thai junta leader Prayut Chan-o-cha to transfer the two to the supervision of Myanmar’s embassy in Bangkok, releasing them from Thai custody. “If they run away, I will accept to be arrested,” he told the media.

The two men have recanted their original confession, alleging it had been extracted under torture.

The Myanmar embassy applied for bail on November 26 and agreed to provide the surety, but the Koh Samui District Court rejected the application.

Meanwhile, U Khin Aung Myint has provided K10 million on behalf of the hluttaw to assist the men, while hluttaw representatives U Khin Shwe and U Nay Win Tun have given K10 million each. A Rakhine social network has also donated about K 15 million towards the defence.

U Khin Aung Myint went to Thailand on November 23 together with legal experts and other hluttaw representatives to negotiate on behalf of the accused, and met Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on November 25.

On November 20, the Koh Samui court allowed Thai police to continue to hold the two men, remanding them in custody for a fifth time. Under Thai laws, a suspect can be remanded seven times, for a total of 84 days. The suspects had asked the court to deny the application but a judge upheld the police request.

“The Thai police said that they have not completed their investigation yet,” said U Aung Myo Thant, a lawyer involved in the case.

“We objected to remanding them again because they have been held for nearly 50 days but the court allowed it.”

Corrupt cops are just killing time waiting for the last remnants of interest in this case to disappear before they conclude this the Thai way - real culprits go free, myanmar boys suicide themselves, cops and judges get some more money.

The entire process is a joke in the context of any meaningful jurisprudence but of course no one is laughing.

From the story below ""Two Myanmar men accused of the brutal slayings of a pair of British backpackers on Koh Tao in September could be indicted as soon as Tuesday, after police submitted additional evidence requested by prosecutors."
Indictment Tues for Koh Tao suspects? | Bangkok Post: news

Where do the prosecutors expect the police to get this "additional evidence?" At this point, in just about any investigation I ever saw, you either have it or you don't, and if you have it you would have included it in the original submission to the DA. TIT

^ Guess I'm actually saying the same thing you are Seekingasylum, just in a different way.

Indictment of Koh Tao Murder Suspects Postponed Again

BANGKOK – A court on Koh Samui island has approved a prosecutor’s request to extend the detention of two Burmese men accused of murdering British tourists in southern Thailand in September.

Police arrested Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo*, both 21-year-old Burmese migrants, on 3 October and accused them of murdering British tourists David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, on the popular resort island of Koh Tao.

Despite police’s insistence that Zaw and Wai are linked to the murder through incontrovertible forensic evidence, the public prosecutor handling the case has repeatedly delayed indicting the two men, citing police’s "incomplete" case files.

The two men have had their detention extended six times since they were arrested, bringing their total number of days in prison up to 60. Under Thai laws, a suspect can be detained for up to 84 days before trial.

In court today, the public prosecutor reportedly attributed the delay of Zaw and Win’s indictment to the extensive amount of evidence and number of witnesses connected to the case.

I think they will let the 84 days run it's course so they legally have to release them.. then bury their heads further in the sand and hope that they go home, shut up and never come back, and that public interest recedes to background noise over the following months and years while the case remains unsolved.

I can't see an alternative, (well convicting them on flimsy evidence is the preferred option for the BiB), but the other suspects are never going to be brought to account imo.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Thai court is holding out for a larger brown envelope. No doubt once the clock ticks near 84 days, said brown envelope will exchange hands.

Unfortunately this may be true. There is too much shit and too large a fan. And to maintain future confidence in the law and the system itself, the law enforcers need to be seen to be respectable and not the corrupt idiots they sometimes are.

Another petition has started up, the pressure is still there...

    https://www.change.org/p/scotland-ya...2-burmese-boys

We strongly urge all friends of the two British tourists, David Miller and Hannah Witheridge, who were murdered in Thailand earlier this year and to come forward and speak out against the Thai prosecution unjustly charging two Burmese suspects, Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, with these crimes. We also would like to Scotland Yard to release the information they have in order that the truth can be revealed.

The two suspects, Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun (both 21), are awaiting trial for these murders - despite enormous criticism of the police in handling of this case. If found guilty, these two migrant workers from Myanmar (also known as Burma) could face the death penalty

Please contact Mr. Nakhon Chompuchat who is representing 2 Burmese boys accused of the murder or Admin of CSI LA at [email protected]

Anyone else think the two illegal immigrants (sorry migrant lads) might just be guilty ?

Perhaps they didn't do a runner because they thought the cops had being paid off by others involved, also explaining why they turn at the dna test without a care .

Perhaps the prosecutor is delaying until the last minute, as in their different way of seeing things, they think that this makes the case looks thoroughly professional and unrushed.

What a total farce. First they submit their report. They are congratulated by the General for their great work in being able to establish a complete report in a short time. There was alos talk of rewards for such a good job well done. This report if I am correct has been sent back 6 times now and still not complete? So where has this extensive amount of new witnesses come from, who were not in the previously completed reports and I wonder at what cost to the real murderers.
I onoy hope the when we get the UK police report, they don't go along with this farce.

Only three times, and it is for witness clarification, not new witnesses nor investigation matters.

Mr. McAnna was a casual friend of Miller's whilst Mr. Ware was traveling with him.
McAnna is not a convicted paedophile, in fact it seems that was just a rumour started by the island families based on an accusation he had at one time in his past accessed a site featuring young models. If that makes you a pedophile, then seems most foreigners in Thailand would qualify.

According to the Scottish Record, Sean pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children last year in his native Scotland.

Now it has emerged Sean, of Shotts, Lanarkshire, pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children last year.
During a hearing at Hamilton Sheriff Court last year he was ordered to complete a community payback order of 170 hours — reduced from 200 because of his guilty plea — unpaid work.

Pleading guilty and being charged for possessing indecent images of children makes him a peadophile in my books.

Prosecutors claim case against Koh Tao Myanmar pair is solid: source
    The Nation / Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: Public prosecutors expect the case against two Myanmar suspects accused of murdering two British tourists on Koh Tao to be treated seriously by a court in the South because they believe the evidence is solid, an informed source said yesterday.

The arraignment of the suspects looks set to take place this week.

Suspects Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun, however, insist they were forced to confess to crimes they did not commit.

The two Britons David Miller and Hannah Witheridge were brutally killed on September 15 on Koh Tao, a usually idyllic island in Surat Thani province.

The suspects Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Htun were illegal migrant workers on the island at the time the shocking crimes took place.

The source yesterday said a public prosecutor working on the case insisted there was incriminating evidence against the two Myanmar suspects.

"Procedures followed by investigators are also in line with laws. At first, they just charged the two Myanmar suspects with illegally entering Thailand. Murder charges have been pressed only after solid evidence emerged against them," the prosecutor was quoted as saying.

The source did not identify the public prosecutor by name. Both local and foreign institutes have conducted DNA tests on the investigation into the Koh Tao crime and their results point fingers at the accused, the source alleged.

While Thai police insist they solved the case with legitimate evidence, speculation has been rife on social media that the two Myanmar men are just scapegoats.

Tawatchai Seangchaew, who heads the Office of State Attorney Region 8, said yesterday that lingering doubt among social-media users may stem from the fact they have not seen all the evidence.

"When the case reaches the court, the two suspects will be brought to the courtroom. There, they can plead innocent or guilty. And the court will handle the rest," he said.

Tawatchai said parents of the victims would be notified about the progress in the case before the hearings start.

Thai Prosecutors Indict Koh Tao Suspects, Let the Lies Begin

SURAT THANI – Thailand’s prosecutors on Wednesday said Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Tun will stand trial for the brutal killing of David Miller andHannah Witheridge a pair of British holidaymakers killed on Sairee Beach Koh Tao in Surat Thani Province.

Police originally charged Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Tun with the murder of David Miller, 24, and the rape and murder of Hannah Witheridge, 23, in October, citing DNA tests and later confessions by the pair to the crime on the holiday island of Koh Tao.

But Zaw Lin and Win Zaw Tun, both in their early 20s, later retracted their confessions, alleging they were obtained under duress, raising concerns over the probity of the investigation.

Prosecutors on Koh Samui Island in Surat Thani Province, where the pair are being held, had for several weeks repeatedly rejected the police file on the case, saying it was incomplete.

However under pressure from higher Authorities agreed on Wednesday to finally indict two migrant worker suspects for trial.
