A failed businessman who claimed he received three huge lottery windfalls on Tuesday handed out 200,005 eggs to needy people, schools and police stations in a merit making exercise in Udon Thani township.

Suthep Khamkhanti, 49, runs the Thepsang Limited Partership, a property firm, with an office located at House No 205 at the Nadi intersection on Udon Thani - Nong Bua Lamphu road in Udon Thani's Muang district.

The ceremony was attended by their relatives and friends in the property sector. A large number of people turned up to receive the handout.

Mr Suthep said his businesses included sales of land and commercial buildings, but he had not been successful. Then, one year ago, luck was on his side when he built a commercial building at the Nadi intersection with more than 10 shop fronts for sale at 4 million baht each.

At the beginning he could sell only a few shops. He turned to a spirit shrine situated on his land, prayed for luck and refurbished the building. He managed to sell all of the shops for 4.9 million baht each. Mr Suthep believed this was with help from the spirit of the land.

He again prayed for more luck. In a dream after the prayer, a large serpent came and told him to make merit to help the poor and to buy numbers on the underground lottery. This prompted him to buy the numbers 205, the number of his house, and he won 4 million baht.

He built a new shrine for the spirit and in the next lottery draw he again bought a number which matched with the last three digits of the first prize lottery winning number and made another 11.8 million baht.

Mr Sombat said he again made 4 million baht in the following lottery draw, for a total of 20 million baht.
