Endangered Shellfish and Prawns Released into Bay
Friday October 2013
Mr. Somwang Pimilboot, Deputy Director General of the Department of Fisheries officially opened an environmental programme along beaches in Chonburi province.
The plan is to release Venus Shellfish and Tiger Prawns into the sea in the hope that the species will begin to breed again.
This is because it was revealed in a recent report that overfishing has caused these sea creatures which are a popular tasty treat in local restaurants to become endangered in the Bay of Thailand.
Therefore, a total of 755,000 Venus Shellfish and 200,000 Tiger Prawns were released into the sea.
