Car crash kills two rally cops

Two policemen returning from a deployment at the Pitak Siam rally were killed in a road accident in Pa Mok district of Ang Thong yesterday.
A van transporting several police from the rally collided with a taxi at the Pa Mok intersection. The officers were returning to the Pa Mok district police station.
Police said their investigation suggests the taxi driver was at fault. No charges have been laid.
Pol Sgt Maj Sarawut Lawong, of the Pa Mok district police, was thrown from the van and died instantly. Fellow officer, Pol Cpl Mongkolchai Muangkaew, 35, was critically injured and died later at a local hospital.
Fourteen others were injured in the collision although it was unclear how many of them were police officers and how many were in the taxi.
Two of the injured officers were in a serious condition, according to local police. The pair, Pol Sub Lt Jirawut Amartmontri and Pol Sub Lt Suriyo Thongtaeng, were taken by helicopter to the Police General Hospital in Bangkok.Others injured in the crash were taken to Pa Mok Hospital, Ang Thong Hospital, and Ang Thong Vechakarn Hospital.
