Man Shot By Roving Gang of Teen Motorbikers

A 30-year-old Thai man riding his motorbike was shot by a gang of motorbiking teenagers on Thepprasit Road. The man was returning home after drinking with friends, when the teens began following and harassing him for no reason, and then shot him.

PATTAYA – September 19, 2012 [PDN]; at 11 p.m., a report of a Thai man being shot by a gang of teens was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Vittaya Yeunyong, Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province.

He rushed to the scene with a police team and the rescue officer from the Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation.

The incident occurred at Soi 17 Thepprasit, Moo 12 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

At the scene, police found an injured Thai man, Mr. Sathitwong Saeso or Tee, age 30, address 249 Moo 12 Tambon Nong Preu, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province.

The victim was waiting for assistance at the side of the road. There were scratches all over his body caused by his motorbike spilling to the ground during the shooting. He had a wound in his right arm after gunshots were fired at him. The rescue officer performed first aid for the wound.

During questioning, Mr. Sathitwong said that he had been drinking with four friends at the pond near a restaurant in the soi. After they were finished drinking liquor, he rode his motorbike alone to go back home.

Along the way, a gang of teenagers riding on 10 motorbikes began following him, and started shouting and harassing him. However, Mr. Sathitwong didn’t reply anything and tried to keep riding his motorbike.

Then one of the teens took out a gun and shot at him. A bullet wounded Mr. Sathitwong’s right arm, making him lose control of his motorbike, which fell and slid along the ground. The gang of delinquent teenagers then escaped.

Mr. Sathitwong told police that he had never met the teenagers or had a quarrel with them to cause them to shoot him. He assumed that this gang of teenagers liked to make trouble with other local people too. So they had found him and made trouble with him.

Police sent the victim to Banglamung hospital for treatment of his injuries. They coordinated with the police team to follow up to arrest the gang of teenagers, who had escaped in the direction of Thepprasit Road and south Pattaya Road.

Police chased and detained two teenagers in south Pattaya, and brought them back to the victim to identify. But the victim couldn’t confirm them as part of the trouble-making gang, because he could not remember the faces of his attackers.

The two detained teenagers told police that they didn’t know the gang of teenagers who had made trouble. But when they saw the police, they rode away to escape on their motorbike because they were afraid of being arrested because they were not wearing helmets.

However, the police took down information on the teenagers for evidence before releasing them. Police will continue to investigate to find the gang of teenagers who are randomly shooting people to prosecute according to the law.

If Khun Sathitwong was riding a m/cycle whist under the influence of alcohol, sustained a gunshot wound and survived both to tell the tale then it sure was his lucky day
