A 45-year-old man with a criminal history was arrested on charges of sexually molesting his 14-year-old stepdaughter. He is also charged with sending obscene texts and photos to her mother after being ordained as a monk in Cha Cherngsao.
BANGKOK – September 18, 2012 [PDN]: the arrest of a recently ordained monk on sex charges was announced at a press conference at the Bang Khen police station by Pol. Col. Chayut Marayat, director of Bang Khen police station; Pol. Lt. Col.Sane Maneechai, the detective inspector of Bang Khen police station; Pol. Col. Pong Surawat Wongsarum, vice detective inspector of Bang Khen police station.
Also at the press conference was Mrs.Paveena Hongsakul, the chairman of Paveena foundation for children and women, who first reported his sexual crimes to police.
The suspect, “Mr. A” (cover name), age 45, was arrested with a warrant from Meen Buri provincial court number 770/2555, dated September 2012. The warrant charges him with sexually abusing a child under 15 years old without her consent. Police also seized the evidence of Mr. A’s four mobile phones that contained obscene texts and photos.
The defendants were identified as his wife, “Mrs. Nid” (cover name), age 33, and “Ms. New,” (cover name), his 14-year-old stepdaughter who had been sexual abused by him.
Mrs. Paveena said that on September 16, Mrs. Nid brought her daughter to complain that Ms. New had been sexual abused by her stepfather, who had been living with them for two years in soi Watcharapol, Khlong Thanon, Saimai.
Her stepfather had been touching her daughter’s breasts and genitals without her consent. He had been fondling Ms. New from July 2011 to February 2012. But her daughter had only recently told her mother about the sexual assaults because she had been afraid that Mr. A would hurt her.
After Mr. A ordained as a monk in Cha Cherngsao, he kept using his cell phone to send adult text and photos of his genitals to Mrs. Nid’s cell phone, so she notified the police to arrest him.
The police said a lot of criminals try to become ordained as monks after committing crimes to escape prosecution. So the police would like the Culture Minister to monitor and examine monks. The police would like all temples to check the records of people before they are ordained, to see if any of them have criminal backgrounds or pending court trials.
After his arrest, Mr. A denied sexually abusing his stepdaughter. But he admitted sending adult texts and photos of his genitals to Mrs. Nid. He assumed that Mrs. Nid is making the false accusation against him because she may have a new boyfriend.
After checking Mr. A’s background, police found that Mr. A had been arrested in 2001 at the Kannayao police station for selling drugs. He was sentenced to prison for three years. After getting out of prison in early 2012, Mr. A was arrested again at the Bang Plee police station in Samut Prakarn for stealing a car.
Mr. A was released on bail pending his trial for the car theft, but he once again was arrested for this current case of sexual crimes. Police kept the evidence and sent Mr. A to the detective team for further investigation and prosecution.
