LONDON

(IANS) A man of Pakistani origin has been charged with the murder of his girlfriend in a subway in Britain’s Berkshire city. She was a trained kick-boxer from Thailand.

Thai-born Tuanjai Sprengel, 43, was dating Muhammad Shafi, 28, who is now accused of killing her. She was battered on the head from behind and suffered a deep puncture wound to her throat, The Sun reported.

The victim was found Sunday morning in Bracknell town and Shafi was arrested six hours later in the couple’s one-bed flat a few hundred yards from the scene.

Neighbours said Sprengel, mother to a child, and Shafi planned to wed in Thailand this year before flying to his parents’ home in Pakistan for a second ceremony.

A mother found dead in a subway was a fully trained kick-boxer who had been dating the man accused of killing her.

Tuanjai Sprengel, 43, was found with her head battered from behind, lying in an underpass in Bracknell, Berkshire, on Sunday morning.

Today her partner Muhammed Shafi, 28, briefly appeared before magistrates' charged with murder.

The suspect was arrested in the couple's one-bedroom flat just six hours after the Thai-born mother-of-one was found dead.

He was remanded in custody today by magistrates in Slough and he is due to appear again at Reading Crown Court tomorrow.

Shafi, from Pakistan, was not asked to confirm his address or date of birth as an interpreter had not been provided.

The 28-year-old, who speaks limited English, was flanked by two security guards as he appeared in the dock for the brief hearing.

Presiding magistrate Graham Wykes said: 'Mr Shafi you will appear before Reading Crown Court tomorrow, May 31, for a preliminary hearing.'

No application for bail was made.

Thai-born Tuanjai, a masseuse known to her friends as 'Tuk', moved in with Shafi in February.

A friend who knew her well, said that she had a child who lived in Germany with his father. Tuanjai had been married to the German and lived with him for 14 years before coming to the UK.

'She and her boyfriend moved here in February and seemed to be very happy. He seemed to like gambling and they would go to the casino in the evenings. She used to like to use the fruit machines.'

Police said that a post-mortem examination showed that she died from a blunt force attack to the back of her head. She had also suffered the puncture wound to her neck and was covered in blood.

Her body was discovered on Sunday morning by two gardeners in an underpass near Bay Drive, Bullbrook, Bracknell.

Oh dear, yet another (UK 'Pakistani') murder case, at least he wasn't child grooming this poor girl like the usual modus operandi.
Ha ha, so many of these 'UK Pakistani' serious offences occuring now that i am placing large investments in the food companies supplying UK jails with their Halal meat, i hope to make big gains.

Kiaran Stapleton admits killing Indian student Anuj Bidve

Anuj Bidve was shot while on a trip with friends to the Boxing Day sales in Manchester

A man accused of murdering Indian student Anuj Bidve in Salford has pleaded guilty to his manslaughter.

Kiaran Stapleton, 21, of Ordsall, Salford admitted shooting the postgraduate on 26 December 2011.

Stapleton pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter at Manchester Crown Court.

Mr Bidve's parents, who travelled from India to hear the plea, said coming "face to face" with Stapleton had been "very emotional and difficult".

Stapleton was remanded in custody ahead of a trial at Manchester Crown Court on 25 June.

The court heard the issue in the case will be whether Stapleton was of diminished responsibility at the time of the killing.
'Emotional time'

Mr Bidve's parents, Subhash and Yogini, said they had wanted to attend the court hearing to hear Stapleton's plea.

In a statement, they said: "This is the first time we have returned to the UK since Anuj was taken away from us, and the first time we have come face to face with the man charged with his murder, so clearly this is a very emotional and difficult time for us."

The couple last visited the area shortly after their son's death to visit the spot where he died.

During their visit, they said they did not blame the people of Salford, only the person responsible for their son's death.

Mr Bidve, 23, was with friends in Ordsall when he was shot in the head at close range.

The Lancaster University student had travelled to Manchester with a group of friends to visit the Boxing Day sales.

He was walking from his hotel in Trafford Park to the city centre when he was attacked.

Following Mr Bidve's death, a candlelit vigil was held by members of the local community.

Mr Bidve had been studying for a micro-electronics postgraduate qualification at Lancaster University after completing an electronics degree at Pune University in India.

A memorial service was held at the Lancashire institution, which also opened a book of condolence.
