Mid, what got me is that the rule was 1 balloon per peron allowed. There was the TEFLer, his farang buddy, the Thai wife and the child. 4 balloons - 4 people.
A beating for balloons??? I read earlier TD members saying he should have go beat and got what he deserved.![]()
A couple of silly reactions to this story.
She just graduated from kindergarten at 7 YEARS old!!!!
Why didn't he just let the baloons go and pick them up at the other side of the gate or pop them off in the faces of the twerps.
indeed and no doubt those posters are currently grateful to the mod who deleted the threadOriginally Posted by chitown

Whats going to happen on take a balloon to work day? It's going to be a bloodbath in Bangkok.
Guards are fired and crybabies get balloons when this will make the news in Britain and possibly discourage tourists from visiting and bringing money. It's one thing to shut down JJ and his jet ski racket, but a poor 200 Baht/day guard has no connections or political power, and is expendable.
"Helium/Hydrogen
Helium is more expensive than hydrogen, yes. You do not make your own helium, but about a half-liter of aluminum chips and the same volume of caustic soda makes enough hydrogen to fill a large weather balloon, and is commonly used as such in 3rd world countries."
It worked really well in the Hindenburg and who should be surprised that a kids balloon here might be filled with flammable gas.

I think you might have hit the nail on the head, on of those grateful fools who should be grateful for the thread being deleted was probably the mod who deleted it. Presumably DD is jealous of thaivisa's success and wants to emulate it by recruiting the same kind moronic self obsessed mods they have there.
As for this event, its perfectly reasonable to view this as a race attack, a view supported no only by much of the thai language forums, but also some of the more culturally integrated members of this forum.
I had a similar situation on the BTS once. We went through the turnstyle and both of us had drinks. The security guards looked at us and said nothing. We go to the the Siam interchange and exited and while waitinbg for the next train some Rambo security guard came up and wanted to confiscate both bottles of Coke. We had not opened either one yet.![]()

Glad to see the outcome as it should be.
The guy was out of order, but the guard was completely off the scale out of order.
He's been sacked, and the farang is getting compensation.
Result as it should of been.
^ Never forget mate that losing a finger in a factory when you're on a salary of 6k entitles you to 10k (baht) in compensation.
Flowers would be a result![]()
So I posted something asking some questions on Andrew Drummond's site regarding this topic and he refused to post it and made a disparaging remark. So I told him I would post on other forums my questions.
Well I registered and posted on Thaivisa and immediately metishead deleted my posts. I will assume he contacted his friends there and had my posts deleted.
I know you guys won't delete my posts. Or will you?
My questions are,
In the video, near the end, it shows the teachers friend gesturing to the person taking the video in a manner that suggests they are known to each other, not in a manner as was stated that it was a stranger. So, if it was a random Thai stranger, how would this Thai girl know to send it to Andrew? How did she get his details when there is no visible contact between her and them?
I questioned his agenda in this. A journalist should be objective, yet he had already decided which side of the fence he was on before all the facts were in. And he refuses to answer any questions that refute his agenda.
And I mentioned that this will bring a lot of Thai attention to his site for both good and bad, but ultimately negative consequences as this will have a long and possibly irreversible effect on relations between the locals and the foreign community. This has gone viral on Thai chat sites.
Thoughts, opinions?
^
The fact that the guard has been sacked and some effort made to make it up to the Irish fella will assure that
"ultimately negative consequences as this will have a long and possibly irreversible effect on relations between the locals and the foreign community"
will not happen.
If nothing would have been done, would have been very different.
I cannot really give you any. the comment was the result of killing half an hour today with some chaps at the office, going though the thai and english comments about this case on TD, drummands website, pantip.com and some of the commentary on the you tube vids.
Worth while as they started off with opinion that the victim of this should be arrested, jailed, deported and blacklisted for trying to use the BTS without a ticket and assaulting the guards.
It is interesting that
(1) BTS apologized
(2) BTS fired the guards
and most importantly....drum roll please....
(3) BTS DID NOT RELEASE THE CCTV footage!!!
If Mr. Behan had been violent before, not paid his ticket, assaulted staff, one would think that BTS would have already released the friggin' video to support their cause.
Everything would be cleared up if the entire story was known from the video. As of now, I am still holding off on judgment.

^As you say, their are really only two reasons for then not releasing the video
1. the cameras are fake and they have no recordings
2. the video supports Behan's story
One of the comments on pantip.com was that the security guards from the station that allowed him to enter with the ballons earlier in the day got fired two. I'm not sure how true that was given the rather truth/bollocks ratio of what was being disused on pantip.... not unlike like TD at times
What unsettles me about his whole incident is that Andrew could have given me a simple reply yet he instead chose to first insult me, then when I told him I would post on other forums, first at thaivisa they were being plucked with vigor, then he went and edited his insult to me to calling me an internet cowboy and along with metishead from thaivisa distorting my comments to appear as if I was uninformed when in fact I pointed out much more discrepancies than stated above. If Andrew who considers himself a journalist, has to resort to first insulting me, then distorting my comments then what is one to think. Why not give a simple explanation. Why retort an insult, distort my comments and feign ignorance while vigorously trying to block me?
Obviously I have entered an area that he would rather not discuss. Why make childish remarks without posting the comments to which the remarks apply? There is more to this than is obvious. I can not respect anyone who panders to tabloid sensationalism at the expense of the relations of a nation and their foreign residents. Calling names and withholding comments that do not further your agenda is just plain unprofessional.
Let me add an off remark. There have been been a number of recent events fomenting racial tensions in a number of countries recently. What are the chances of such things happening in succession in a number countries that have been incommunicado to the wants of the larger picture.
This is much bigger than anyone is registering at the moment. Do not be fooled with the offering of alms on the part of the BTS. It is what any large company would do especially in the face of a series of events that have taken place putting a strain on the viability of Thailand. This is protocol and any company would have first consulted their legal staff and calculated the costs involved in the settlement scenarios. It may very well come to pass that they capitulate to the teacher, but this does not necessarily mean they are at fault, but can also mean they have calculated it to be a cheaper alternative. I would argue that they have a very strong case. If this were to occur in any western country, he would have been taken down immediately.
In summary, why try to muffle me when what I wrote above at first glance is innocuous, but in hind sight seems to have caused a ripple. Andrew what are you hiding?
In the end we will all pay for this indiscretion!

So hydrogen gas is used to inflate these balloons in Thailand as it is cheaper than helium.
Who would have thought that?
I have been informed by other posters on this board that hydrogen is too expensive to produce and is economically unviable as an internal combustion motor fuel.
Amazing Thailand.

watching that video made me angry on several fronts
first annoyance why cannot the filmer hold the bloody camera steady ?
Who does the Irish think he is ,right or wrong you stay cool in Asia,
he's really angry- why not just laugh at the guards, go outside and take a taxi ?
instead he's charging forward like a demented toddler trying to escape bedtime .
His friend trying to hold him back is a fool too -if you are ever with an idiot , just leave him to it .
He deserved a beating , imagine how upsetting it was for the little girl ...
the police should have given the Irish guy another thrashing for good measure
The guards should be promoted not sacked ..
Irish guy probably a bog man....scum
You are a xenophobic northern prat aren't you blue?
I suppose you think that only English heterosexuals are the chosen people and are God's gift to the world.
Your quote from Enoch's little black book explains a lot.
which chapter of the BNF are you in?
