    Non-imm-o, Savannakhet, Possible??

some friends of mine are here for 5 months.

they arrived on a munich issued non-imm.-O single entry at suwannaphum, got stamped in for 90 days.

the 90 days is up at the end of this month.

we are planning a road trip around isaan to coincide with the end of the 90 day period.

    some questions,

    1. at the end of the 90 days, with a simple border crossing, say at nong khai or savannakhet, would they get a 30 day or 15 day tourist visa on the way back in to thailand?

2.what would the best option for them be to enable them to get another 30 day at least stay.

    3. will the savannakhet consulate issue a new non-imm.-0 to enable them to enter for another 90 days. and if so how long would it take? (i.e. is it a one day procedure, in in the morning, receive the visa in the afternoon, or would it entail an overnight in savannakhet.)

    4. where would it be easier for them to get a new non-imm-O, in vientiane or in savannakhet?

i'm on a yearly renewed retirement stay and so know nothing about tourist type visas so thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

They will only get a 15 day stamp
    They won't get a visa

Go to Vientiane and get a tourist visa. Apply one morning, collect the next afternoon.

    I don't know about Savannakhet.

They can get an extention on their tourist visa for one month, going to any immigration office and filling in the form "extention of stay".

Easiest to stay for another 3 months is going to Venetiane to apply for a new tourist visa.

Don't forget to get a "RE ENTRY" Permit for your retirement extension to "O" visa prior to departure for your self TaxExile.

    thanks for that reminder s.e.a.traveller.

their visas are non-imm-o, they should be able to get a 30 day extension.
i'll take them along to the local immigration office tomorrow to find out exactly what they can get. i'll get my re entry permit too.

    1. If the current visa is a single-entry O visa it will come to an end whenever they leave Thaialnd. They will only get a 15 day visa/stamp when they re-enter over a LAND border crossing....unless they have recieved another tourist visa or non O visa at a Thai consulate outside of Thailand. If the come back by AIR they will get a 30 day stamp on entry at the airport (assuming they qualify).
    2. The best option...try for a single or possibly a double entry TOURIST visa in Vietianne. I'm not sure if the Thai consulate will give them a double enty tourist visa or not...but it's worth a try. A single entry tourist visa should be no problem.
    3. Savannakhet might issue a non O single entry visa....but I would say the odds are stacked against it. They would probably be able to get a single entry tourist visa there however.
    4. Most all visas are done this way...turn in your passport and the application/fee (if there is a fee) the morning of the first day before noon...and return to pick up the visa on the afternoon of the 2nd day ater 1 p.m. So it is always a 2 day process. You come in on a morning flight on the first day and leave on an evening flight n the 2nd day.
Now some consulates have outside agents who will tell you they can get a visa for you on the same day. Maybe they can, and maybe they can't. At any rate using an agent will cost you extra...decide for yourself if it is really worth the cost to save one overnight stay.
    5. If they can get a single entry tourist visa, if that's acceptable, Savannakhet seems like the best choice. Otherwise I would go to Vientianne...and fly back for the extra 15 days you get at the airport.

And another point....there is no limitation on how many 30 day stamps you get by flying into Thailand. So if they can afford the flight to Penang, an overnight stay, and a flght back will get them another 30 day stamp. If they do go to Penang make sure they get some Chili Crab at a food stall while there (I love that suff, every time I go to Penang I look forward to a meal of Chilli Crab and Rice).
I guess you could do the same by leaving Thailand and flying back into the country for a 30 day stamp at the airport...as I said there is no limit on how many airport entry stamps you can get. Wherever you go, expect to need a hotel room for one night ...because it's difficult to get a flight out and back on the same day...but theoretically possible I guess.

immigration told them that they can only extend their non-imm-0 for 7 days.

they have decided to go to siam reap next week for 3 days and get a 30 day tourist visa on arrival on their way back in.

like so many others, they, as regular visitors to thailand, and big spenders too, are tired of all the hoops thay have to jump through to be able to extend their stay here.

its not a cheap destination any more and they say they have to be constantly on the look out for rip offs, padded bills, faulty goods, and scams directed at tourists here. after 6 years of spending their winters here, they will find a new destination for next year.

    thanks for all the replies.

    Hello,

Can you get a 60 days extension of stay based on marriage if you arrive in Thailand on a 15 days STAMP (visa exemption) ?

If not the best place to get a NON-O (non-immigrant O) visa based on marriage is now SAVANAKHET ? (because they ask more documents at Vientiane?)

    Thanks.
