    Tourist Visa Australia

Hi there, I got my fianc'e a 3 month tourist visa for Australia which commenced on 2/7/10 when she arrived, she only stayed for a month and returned home. For reasons which I wont go into here, I would like to get her back again within the 3 month period and return home. The problem is, I just found out it is a 'single entry visa' .Does anyone or has anyone had any experience with this? I am wondering if I can contact the Embassy and get them to change it without having to sumbit a new visa application? I think that sounds too easy because somewhere else I read that a single entry visa is cancelled as soon as the holder leaves the origin country. Any comments would be much appreciated thanks.

^This is an American answer, but I suspect it is exactly the same for Australia. A visa is not issued for a specific time period. The Embassy issued her a visa; it is up to the Immigration Officer at the point of entry how long to allow her to stay - the normal period is 90 days. When she leaves, the visa is canceled. No way will you get it changed. You will have to apply for a new visa. On a positive note, however, the fact that she went to OZ and returned within the correct time frame should bode well for the issuance of another visa - thinking by Immigration guys being that if she was gonna jump, she would have done it on the first trip.

    Single entry means single entry.
She'll need a new visa. Check to see if their are time limits regarding when she can even get a new Oz visa.

    Hi Browndog,
For HR countries single entry visas are common place and mean exactly that. The 3 month TV for Australia usually comes with multiple entries otherwise.
Have you considered the PMV Visa at all?

    Cheers

Okay, thanks for the replys. I was thinking that was the case but just thought I would check it out. I am in the process of applying for a PMV which is the reason I want her back, it's just alot easier face to face filling forms rather than over Skype ect. Additionally, she could lodge the Visa in person on the way home rather than rely on the post. Thanks again guys!!

Yes Browndog I agree with you.... maybe get all the translated documents done whilst in Thailand, Police clearance certificates etc... nothing wrong in getting the medicals done as well.. you then have 9 months to get married. Very best wishes for a long and happy life together. TG

You must be outside Australia when you apply for this visa, and when the visa is granted.
    Prospective Marriage Visa (Subclass 300)

Am I wrong in saying for this visa BD that you have to be outside when applying and being granted this Visa?
or are you hoping to apply when your GF is on shore and hoping to obtain a bridging visa? if this is the case, than you might have to consider the TV , there could be a "no further stay" imposed upon that visa.

    Just a thought. cheers TG

    Amendment:

Browndog... For sure this is an off shore visa.

I enclose this link for you if you are considering marriage in Thailand.
As I have stated previously there is an approx 6 month delay for non HR countries on spouse/pmv visas from europe so maybe enquire the time delay in Thailland

Although it has been almost 10 years since we applied for a Fiancee Visa to Australia (it must be now called PMV Proposed Marriage Visa) I will relate our experience.

First Visa we got was a 3 month Tourist Visa which is or was a single entry visa which allowed a maximum stay of 3 months so once you come and then go its all over for that particular Visa. While in Australia we made arrangements to visit a certified translator and she spent quite a bit of time going through the PMV application form. The missus had a copy we had downloaded and she made notes in Thai for each question so when she was back in Thailand she could go to the Aussie Embassy and apply for a PMV. She had a list of everything she needed to do and provide. So after spending 3 months in Aussie she went home and applied. The reasoning behind this was that I insisted that she spend time in Australia with me while I was working so that she understood that I was not a walking ATM. At the end of 3 months she agreed to marry me and hence the application for a PMV on her return to Thailand.

She applied in December 2000 and was informed that it could take up to a year to process, I believe it is a bit quicker now. Anyway while we waited we applied for another 3 month tourist visa and she spent another 3 months in Aussie. The PMV was finally granted in November 2001, 11 months after the original application.

We got married 8 months later (in Australia) and then gained her temporary residency visa which lasts 2 years and finally her permanent residency. Each of these stages required just as much paperwork as the first PMV application so if you go that way keep records and stuff you will need it.

Hope this is of some help if you have any specific questions about our experience send me a PM and I will try and answer them.

Good luck in the future whatever you decide to do.

You can forget about going to the Thai consulate in Perth as the foker is now closed.

One must now send all your shite to Sydney or Canberra.

Most inconvenient for us Perth people as the Thai consulate was always helpful and had brilliant staff.

Seems to be the way of the world, When something is working properly they close the bastard thing.
