    New 90 day reporting rule?

No idea if this is a new rule or just a nasty Thai/Chinese immigration officer.

My 90 days reporting was due on the 31 May. I called at Bangkok immigration 8 days before the due date and they refused to do the reporting saying it was too early though I explained to them I was going up country on business the following day and would not be back in Bangkok until the end of the month.

The immigration officer told me what I knew that there was 7 day period either side of the due date.

My flight from Chang Rai arrived too late for my reporting on the 31 but got to immigration on the 1 June to only to be fined 2,000 Baht for being a day late. They also made me wait for over an hour whilst they filled in 5 books and stamped my passport with a nasty stamp to say I had failed to report on time.

I questioned her about the 7 days period either side of the due date and she said and asked why there was no warning signs on this new rule the only reply I had was "no more, must do on the date" I also asked to see her supervisor who also confirmed the 7 day rule has been cancelled.

One nice thing about the Philippines vice Thailand. I only have to leave the country once a year. Fly out, have fun in Thailand for a week or so, fly back, get another year at the airport upon arrival. The food sucks here, but Immigration is easier for certain.

amazing! Here at the Rayong (formerly Maptaput) Immi Office, I had a similar circumstance where I wanted to do early because I was planning on being down range and they processed me about without question about 10 or 11 days before my due date. This was back in April. Not sure if the Sokran holiday played a part in this allowance or not.

True but it is a hell of a lot easier to live as an expat in the Philippines than it is in Thailand.

Why didn't you do your 90-day report in Chiang Rai or the nearest immigration office? It doesn't have to be in Bangkok.

All 90 day reporting has to be done at the office in the region where you reside. Not all Immigration Offices accept postal 90 day reports. The fcuking wankers, I hope they die a lingering death.

People here on a retirement visa don't have to leave if they don't want to. They can renew the visa without exiting if they show 800,000 Baht in a savings account for the three months leading up to the renewal application.

Is that why I do my one year visa at Chok Chai near Korat and then do my 90-day reports at the Cambodian border? Never a problem.

Because of where you live, it's either. Same for me.

Slack: Yep. True. But the whole retirement visa thing here is really fucked up, and a paperwork and money pain in the ass. I have looked into getting a retirement visa several times, but it just doesn't make sense in my situation. I can get a Balikbayan visa, and only leave once a year - which is generally fine by me as I am ready to go to Thailand. Lots of people are going for the retirement visas because their wives are Filipinas, but not with dual citizenship. Used to work, but now you cannot get a Balikbayan one year entry unless your wife is a dual citizen. My wife is dual US/Flip, so I still qualify. I looked closely at all of the benefits of a retirement visa, and there is nothing there which I don't already have except I would not have to leave once a year. To me, that is not worth putting a big chunk of my money in a bank of their choice for them to use as they see fit until such a time as I croak, when my wife might or might not ever get any of it back.

    That is correct.
If some immigration officials decide to break the rules then we can't stop them.

or, in place of the 800K baht, show evidence if a monthly pension or income of a specified amount which escapes me at this point.... it might be 60K baht or something like that.

I think that some of you are missing the point that the 7 days grace either side of the 90 day reporting has been killed off.

One's 90 day reporting must be done just before or on the due date or face a fine of 2,000 Baht

I think this is the most pertinent comment. As a 'rule of thumb', I always do my 90 day report on the exact day, but obviously if it falls on a weekend or holiday, then it's better to do it before rather than later.

Just out of interest, I'm sure there are going to be quite a few people who previously obtained retirement visas through the monthly income (65,000 baht) rule, and who because of the decline of most currencies against the baht, are going to struggle to meet this amount? Just how much of a problem is this going to be?

I certainly know quite a few people (particularly Scandinavians on some form of pension) that in previous years have managed the minimum income criteria, but this year are going to struggle.

    Comments?

Sorry to correct you but it's still accepted at the office I use. You can report up to 7 days before, or after, your 90 day report date.
Fondles I don't talk bollox. Luckily for you someone has been flexible, but what I stated was/is how it works for everyone else.

So, no 7 day rule, but you can report "just before".
How much is "just before".? Seven days?
    Or,

I went 3 year with out doing the 90 day reporting in.
Only getting my non B visa each there was no question about about the 90 day reporting in.
Until I moved to a regional office out side Bangkok.
They pickup on the fact that I had not reported in every 90 days.
    Find 2,000 B
